I was immediately captivated by this couple's adventurous story when they asked me to make a painting of Chatterbox Falls, which according to boaters is one of the '8th wonders of the world.'  Chatterbox Falls is a massive waterfall in British Columbia nestled in a fjord that is not accessible by car, only by boat and sea plane.  So after sailing up the through the winding twists and turns of the bay they finally arrived at the thunderous roar of Chatterbox Falls.  Their 3 week maiden voyage on their Catalina boat was an adventure to treasure and a memory to cherish.

The couple commissioned me to paint Chatterbox Falls, and I really enjoyed making this painting because it carried a particular meaning for this adventurous couple.  The couple shared that the painting will become a family heirloom to share their adventurous and beautiful life together.

I took time to research Chatterbox Falls, and created my composition from various photographs I found online. I incorporated the Catalina boat based on their descriptions and various images I found. The painting process was one of experimentation in keeping the original fresh sketch at the start with the refining process and precision that came with focusing on the details around the waterfall. I contrasted the mountains that are sheer cliffs with various waterfalls flowing down them with the misty clouds that were catching the wind and moving through the valley, a nod to mystery.  After putting a protective varnish I shipped the painting to the west coast.  The couple had the painting framed and it is now proudly hanging in their home reminding them of their adventures and their love story. What a joy it is to make these paintings that honor life, love and nature.
